Too Old to Intern??

The end of the year is near and for many there's decisions to put into force. Should I make career moves now? Should I go back to school? Should I intern... wait a minute intern? How old are you? Interning is usually done by those typically in their early twenties, who've just completed college, or about to. What about adults past this age, yet moving into a market that is new?

Look we're in the age of the millennial's and if you're a tad older you will see the struggle is real when competing for a job with this group. Well as we always stress at Spitfir Productions, thinking outside of the box is key!

The days of faxing (the nerve), and cold calling a company for an opportunity, is not dead with the exception of faxing, but is it effective? There's nothing wrong with being a bit enthusiastic in approaching companies directly and asking if there's an opportunity there, but frankly that usually doesn't work, and if you're a person of a particular age running to a company or cold calling that may out your age, and though it's commendable to use this go-getter approach, many companies find it as a desperate approach to get in the door, Harsh but true :(

The motto of who you know still stands to get in that organization, and that may never go away. However, interning is a special role, and if you've ever been one you know what it entails.

Firstly, many of the interns are not paid; However, there's a huge change over the years and many now get a nice stipend or salary, depending on the field.

Secondly, they go hard, and what I mean is -that young hungry passionate intern, wants to learn by all means, and have no qualms with true grunt work, that others wish to avoid. If your of a particular age... Do really want to run around the city doing menial tasks? You may have to start from the bottom back to the top, and if you ran that course do you really want to go backwards just to learn a new field? Well that's an individual answer. Learning a new field, well there's other options that may pan out rather then interning. However there are a few businesses opened for the talent, but just like anything you have to do the work in getting in the door.

Too old to intern? ... Maybe
